IV Jewellery (2015-Present)

In 2015 I had the idea to take apart an intravenous apparatus, cast the plastic fixtures in bronze, and reassemble it as a necklace, adding seed pearls inside the clear tubes. The idea was sparked by a curiosity about my discomfort when confronted with potentially life-saving medical devices. Once the pieces were cast in bronze, beautiful patterns were revealed that weren’t visible in clear plastic. I became fascinated with the retro-futuristic aesthetic that emerged, and in 2021 began to think about more designs for the series. Not wanting to be limited to existing plastic fixtures, I began to learn how to design them in CAD. The result is a series which includes 3D printed and cast objects, as well as found objects cast in bronze. I am currently working on plans for purpose built display cases for the jewellery.
